KS1 and 2 Science—Unit 6D -Reversible and Irreversible Changes
This Science based session, led by museum staff, introduces pupils to the idea that the things in museums have to be looked after. Pupils will discover what agents can destroy museum collections. The hands on session will look at:
- Acids and Alkalis
- Light
- Temperature / Fire
- Mechanical Erosion
- Wet and Dry
Pupils will get the chance to experiment with different materials to see how each how each agent of decay affects them and record their results. They then have to make recommendations to the museum as to how they should store different types of objects in order to keep them safe.
Ideas for using the session:
- Incorporate this session with Citizenship and look at both how and why it is important for museums to look after their objects.
