Teacher Resources

Buriton Chalk Pits

The resources provided below are for use by teachers in the planning and delivery of lessons. All resources are free to download and can be used in a variety of ways to help develop the knowledge and understanding of students on a topic.

  • Buriton - Changes to a village and it's landscape (1840 - today)

Suitable for:
KS2 & KS3 Geography and KS2 History

These resources can be used in the classroom to look at the social and geographical changes over time of a local village. The study suggested here is based on the rapid change caused by the improvement of transport links and the growing industrialisation of the area.

Click here to download 'Buriton - Changes to a village and its landscape (1840 - today)' (PDF) which includes photographs, maps and other data that has been gathered together by Buriton Heritage Bank.

Listen to the stories of some of the people who worked at the Chalk Pits and discover more about what their life was like with our oral history recordings here.

The teacher's notes include information for each slide as well as ideas for discussion points with pupils. Click here for the Teachers Notes (PDF).

There will be more Teachers Resources available on the website soon. Please check for developments.
