Pathways into the Past

We are really excited to announce that following our major redevelopment, we are planning to open our doors to visitors again on Wednesday 9 June - subject to any changes to Government Covid restrictions.

We will initially be operating under certain conditions including restricting visitor numbers, timed entry slots, social distancing and mandatory data collection.

We are still finalising our plans for visitor admissions and will be announcing a date when tickets go on sale in the next few weeks.

It is with great sadness that the Trustees and Staff of Petersfield Museum have learnt of the death of Don Eades. We would like to send our deepest sympathies to Don’s family and friends at this very difficult time.

Don’s longtime contribution to Petersfield and the surrounding villages, as photographer for The Petersfield Post, was hugely significant and documented the development of the town and the lives of its people throughout much of the latter half of the 20th Century.

At the very heart of Petersfield Museum’s £3.75m expansion and refurbishment project, ‘Pathways into the Past’ will be a showpiece artwork that really puts the Museum on the map.

Within the courtyard floor will be a bird’s eye design inspired by the town and surrounding villages within a 22 mile radius, most of which is in the South Downs National Park.

Work continues to speed along on the ‘Pathways into the Past’, most of the demolition work has been completed and the contractors are now starting the construction! This construction includes the digging of several trenches and holes for the foundations of the new galleries; it was during the digging of one of these trenches that they uncovered an exciting piece of archaeology!

Local residents cannot have helped but notice the changes that have been happening at Petersfield Museum’s home at the old police station and courthouse over the past month. Wooden hoardings have gone up in front of the police station on St Peter’s Road, there is scaffolding along the length of the lane (twitten) leading to Hylton Road and delivery lorries dropping off building supplies regularly.

Building contractors have this week moved onto the police station and courthouse site to start work on Petersfield Museum’s ‘Pathways into the Past’ redevelopment and refurbishment project. Enabling work began on the 29th of July with remedial and construction work starting on the 5th of August.

After a long and detailed procurement process, over seen by Hampshire County Council on behalf of Petersfield Museum, it can be revealed that Phoenix Construction Services Ltd have been selected to deliver the base build for the museum’s ‘Pathways into the Past’ project.

In anticipation of our major redevelopment project starting, we are currently in the process of transferring into our temporary project office. Whilst we are relocating, it may at times, prove difficult to contact us by email or phone.

We are very excited to be looking for 2 new staff members at Petersfield Museum as part of our Pathways into the Past project.
