Edward Thomas and Wales
5th March, 2019 - 5th March, 2019
Start and end times
7:00pm - 8:00pm
Join Petersfield Museum as we invite author Jeff Towns to talk about his new book 'Edward Thomas & Wales'.
'Edward Thomas and Wales' seeks to present and emphasise the effects that Wales had on Thomas’s short but rich life and on his prolific writings. This involves the influences of Wales in all its aspects: as a place—its topography and landscape; for its ancient history, literatures and folklore; and as a notion in politico-historic terms. It addresses how such preternaturally Welsh words such as hwyl and hiraeth manifest themselves in his life and writing. Edward Thomas and Wales presents a new and detailed chronology of Thomas’s interactions with Wales. The selection of extracts from his writings, set in or inspired by Wales, illustrate the profound influence that three great turn of the century Welshman had on Thomas—Owen M. Edwards, Watcyn Wyn and John Jenkins, better known as the bard Gwili.
There will also be an opportunity to purchase his work along with other works about Edward Thomas on the evening.
This talk will take place at Petersfield Museum.
