According to the Sussex Centre for Folklore, Fairy Tales and Fantasy, the South Downs could be home to 80 percent more fairies and a third more ghosts than surrounding areas. Here at the Museum, we’ve been investigating the folklore shared in and around Petersfield.

In the first temporary exhibition of the year, learn about the stories that have grown around the local landscape. Discover the sites of magical buried treasure. Hear about witches in the villages and what people did to keep them away. Listen to Petersfield-born folk music, and see first edition copies of the poet Edward Thomas’ collections of folk tales.
