About or Photography Collection
The Photography Collection contains over 10,000 original photographs, modern-day copies and picture postcards from the late 1800s to the present day. Ranging from personal family photographs to documentary images, they offer a fascinating record of social and architectural changes over the past decades and a glimpse of people’s everyday lives.
Don Eades Photographic Archive
In 2016, Don Eades, a local freelance newspaper photographer, gifted over 100,000 negatives to form an archive of images that span three decades, from 1962 until the 1980s. He photographed architectural and urban changes in the area, community events, sporting activities and daily life, capturing moments that continue to evoke memories and individual stories.
With the help from members of The Arts Society Petersfield and our volunteers, the comprehensive undertaking to conserved, catalogued and digitised this extensive archive is ongoing. The project was supported by a grant from the AIM Pilgrim Trust Collections Care scheme, the Hampshire Archives Trust and councillors from East Hampshire District Council through their Community Scheme Grant.
